The STEM Challenge Initiative was pleased to participate as a special awards sponsor at the 2026 Vermont State STEM Fair, held at Norwich University on March 14. Our award recognizes the best project submitted by a student living or attending school in Franklin or Grand Isle Counties.

The inaugural award was presented to Olin Henry, a 6th-grade student from South Hero who attends Mater Christi School, for his project titled “Regurgitation Investigation.” In his study, Olin compared the diets of horned owls and barn owls by analyzing the contents of owl pellets from both species. He found, contrary to his initial expectations, that barn owls exhibited a more diverse diet than horned owls, based on the specimens he examined.
Congratulations, Olin, on an outstanding science project!
